HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)
Also known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Pregnyl, Novarel, Ovidrel
HCG mimics the hormone LH to switch the testes back on, raising natural testosterone and supporting fertility. Also used clinically in fertility treatment.
Gonadotropin that mimics LH to stimulate testicular testosterone production. Used clinically for fertility and (off-label) to maintain testicular function and fertility on TRT.
Mechanism of action
Binds LH receptors on testicular Leydig cells, stimulating endogenous testosterone and intratesticular signaling.
Prescription hormone, dosed in international units (IU). TRT-maintenance doses (~250–500 IU a few times weekly) are far lower than IVF trigger doses (5,000–10,000 IU).
