Recombinant human insulin-like growth factor 1 for severe primary IGF-1 deficiency. Distinct from the longer-acting analog IGF-1 LR3.

Mechanism of action

Activates the IGF-1 receptor to drive cellular growth and anabolism; circulates largely bound to IGF-binding proteins, extending its half-life.

Approved drug (Increlex). Can cause hypoglycemia — dose with food. Native IGF-1's ~6 h protein-bound half-life differs from IGF-1 LR3.
