Long-acting somatostatin analog for acromegaly and neuroendocrine-tumor symptoms (carcinoid, VIPoma). Immediate-release is dosed 2–3×/day SC.
Mechanism of action
Agonizes somatostatin receptors (mainly SSTR2/5), suppressing GH, glucagon, insulin and various gut hormones.
Approved drug. PK here is immediate-release SC (~1.7 h); the long-acting depot (LAR) releases over weeks and is not modeled by this curve. Can cause gallstones and alter glucose.
